A video which features alleged fake taxi operators who rob unsuspecting passengers in and around Johannesburg has surfaced on social media.
In what looks like a citizen arrest, the video shows three young men who appear to have been accosted by genuine taxi operators in the east of Johannesburg making a confession to their crimes.
They say they operate around the Daveyton township in Ekurhuleni and explain their modes operandi. They say they operate with a white Quantum with the registration number FF 59 CN GP.
Their accosters can be heard making angry interrogations on the background. Its not clear if this confession is genuine because it seems the alleged robbers are speaking under duress.
South Africa has been hit by the scourge of fake taxi operators who rob unsuspecting passengers in recent times and also come with extreme violence. It makes a significant number of South Africans vulnerable as the taxi industry transports 60% of the country’s working force.
