Condemn the assault of a police officer

On Sunday the 12th of November 2017 some members of The Revelation Church of God were captured on video assaulting a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer. They took the officer’s firearm and left him unconscious. He had to be hospitalised.
The scenes, from Hillbrow, Johannesburg, which went viral on social media are ugly and should not be tolerated. It goes without any reasonable shade of doubt that the behaviour of the congregants who participated in the assault is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. The law must take its course.
The larger responsibility to stamp out this kind of behaviour rests with us, the people, the general public. The assault of that police officer mixed with indications that we the people are tolerating of this act, undermines public safety and security.
With this petition we stand up to condemn the behaviour of the implicated members of The Revelation Church of God.

Since the incident occurred on the streets – have you verified whether the attackers were indeed members of the church or are you operating on hearsay? Is there any visible uniform/membership that you have verified that these were indeed members of the Revelation Church of God?

There are allegations that the video circulated and referred to by the biased print and social media is a short snippet of a longer video, where the it is shown that the JMPD officer shoots in the air unprovoked – thus agitating the people on the streets to disarm him so he would cause no further harm with his recklessness – have you seen/sought this video or is this petition part of the growing agenda against religious institutions and more specifically the abovementioned church?

Have we condemned the actions of the police raiding the church as retaliation and beating up a defenseless woman, a video further shared with “Question Time” on the church leader’s visit to the show or are we not interested in police vigilante? Does the music sound better when we say congregants attack defenseless cop?

Seek the truth, and it shall set you free. All of you.
