Fresh water has been gushing out of a burst pipe for the whole day on the corner of Jorrisen and Jan Smuts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, leaving the plane to look like a mini dam.
It has left the corner flooded as shown in the embedded video showing industrial scale spillage. Such wastage should have no place in a country haunted by dry weather conditions.
The City of Johannesburg has just emerged from a dry spell which led to the imposition of water usage restrictions. This was a function of a drought which swept through southern Africa region. The drought situation in Cape Town reached alarming levels.
And as for Johannesburg the whole day spillage undermines the promise of the city’s mayor Herman Mashaba to run an efficient service machine.
